Are you really taking the best care of your skin? Many people don’t realize, but they are making some very common skin care mistakes that could cost them later in life. Read on to find out if you’re one of them.

Washing with bar soap. While a nice neutral soap like Dove can be good for your skin, most bar soaps are just too harsh for facial skin. Yet people continue to use them on a continual basis. The result? They’ll look old before their time as the soap degrades skin and dries it out.

If you get facials, whether regularly or once in a while, you should know that they can actually harm the skin, as well. In fact, most people report having issues after a facial. This beauty treatment tends to cause outbreaks, often brought on by essential oils in the treatment.

Another common issue is not using SPF protection when the sun isn’t out. If it’s cloudy, you still need the protection, but most people don’t realize this and they just don’t use it. That can result in premature aging, wrinkles and sun spots. Try looking for moisturizing lotions that contain solar protection. This also helps prevent the problem of forgetting to put on protection.

Piling on the skin care products can really be bad for you. While it might seem like you need those ten things to smear, rub or spritz on your face, chances are high that they are just going to create an expensive and irritating mix. Skip the multiple products, you should be fine with just a cleanser and a moisturizer.

Skip the oily based cosmetics. These will also clog pores and can be very dangerous if you tend to get frequent outbreaks. Mineral makeup is a better option for most people. It gives the skin the necessary nutrients to stay fresh and young looking, as well as letting it breathe. It’s worth any extra money you’ll have to pay.

It’s very tempting to squeeze zits, but if you do so, make sure to wash the area before and after and don’t touch anything else. There are bacteria in every zit and this can be spread very easily, just through touch. That means instead of helping, you’re actually making the outbreak worse.

Washing your face before you do the hair is not a good idea. Residual conditioner and shampoo tends to cling to the face, clogging pores and causing irritations. Avoid this by washing your hair first and then following the skin cleansing routine. You should never let anything else get on your face after you wash it yourself.

Skin care is often over complicated, but you can really keep it very simple. Avoid excessive cleaning, skip all but the basic products and make sure you use soaps or cleanser that are made to work with your skin. You’ll end up a lot healthier and younger looking.
